There are many versions of this traditional morning tea. Our English Breakfast has an ancient pedigree. Researchers have traced its heritage back to the black tea The English drank regularly in the 1800's. It is simply, China black 100% Keemun. Our convenient box of 50 Tea Bags is a simple way to start your hectic day! Each tea bag brews a 6 to 8 oz cup of tea. English Breakfast Tea was never designed or formulated all those years ago. Rather, teas were chosen that were plentiful and not too expensive, and that would taste good with milk and sugar. Something an English person would enjoy at the start of a busy day. So in the early 1800s, that tea would have been a black tea from China, and this is where we take our inspiration. Later on, many Brits drank the brisker teas from the British colonies of India and Ceylon. After the Second World War, when the colonies became independent, the source of English Breakfast for the British became Africa. We do have some blends that are inspired by these regions, however this English Breakfast, like the original, is Chinese black tea.

In 2006, Michael and Paul Harney decided membership in 1% For The Planet would provide Harney & Sons with the opportunity to drive positive environmental change in our geographical region. Our production facility is located in Upstate New York surrounded by the beautiful mountains that make up the Berkshire Range. We are minutes from the Appalachian Trail. Our facility is located between the Hudson River to our west and the Housatonic River to our east. The Housatonic offers some of this countrys finest fly-fishing. Joining 1% for The Planet meant we could directly donate one percent of our total sales to the environmental organizations of our choice. We also pay annual membership dues to 1% For The Planet to help this exemplary organization defray its overhead costs.

The Harney family and staff are very proud to be part of this fine global organization working toward protection of the environment 1% at a time. As of this year Harney & Sons (with your help) will have donated nearly three and half a million dollars to 1% for the Planet.
